Hanna = a total bust

I bought loads of bottled water, a cooler and everything ... all for a few strong wind gusts and five minutes of rain. What a bummer! Oh well. I'd rather we didn't get walloped, of course. But I was hoping for a little excitement.

I spent *all day* yesterday (seriously) knitting ... this is the progress:

cowl in progress

A Gloria cowl! I love it so. It's not for me, it's for a friend. I've been stocking up on Malabrigo to make these cowls for three friends' birthdays coming up. In other news of advance preparation, I finished a knitted gift for my mom - but no pics until Christmas time, cuz she reads this! The only other Christmas knitting I'm planning are hats for my dad and brother.

Today's my return to work after a three-day weekend. Yesterday was two years for Josh and me; I can't believe it. (We celebrated Thursday with a trip to P.F. Chang's.) I'm in a bit of a funk today, though; I don't know if it's the return to work or general funkiness or what. I'm just cranky with the dog, with Josh, and I just want to curl up in a ball in a silent house. I woke up with a headache yesterday and fell asleep with one, so I'm thinking it's PMS. Meh. Feh. Bleh.

An actual conversation

Me (studying my fall scarf which has become a ribbed scarf): I'm going to have to rip this out.
Josh: Isn't there another term for ripping out?
Me: You mean frogging?
Josh: Yeah, that's it. You called it that the other day.

This is proof that a) he listens to me babble on about yarn and b) I need to keep him.

And yes, I figured out how ribbing works. Go me! I realize this is not a huge discovery for most knitters but man do I feel like a smartie pants right now. I am one step closer to my dream of knitting socks, and it only took several hours. I got the whole K2 P2 thing, but when I'd turn it around and K2, P2, it just didn't *look* right. Then I had a flash - knitting ribbing in the round is K2 P2, but I'd have to switch to P2 K2 in the wrong-side rows since I'm using straight needles. And ribbing looks like little strips of stockinette, so I'd have to switch on the wrongside rows.

I was so elated that I did an order at joann.com to get DPNs in sizes 000 to 3 (as well as some Patons Kroy sock yarn).

the best one of the best ones

Man but the past few days have been great. On Friday, Josh took me to dinner at my new favorite restaurant and I had my second meal ever there - the Louisiana cajun pasta (in a lunch-sized portion, which was still huge - we were there at early-bird time, I guess). We weren't super hungry for cheesecake, though. We were in the mood for gore (!!!), so we saw "28 Weeks Later" and it scared the bejesus out of me, as I knew it would. Despite my poor sleep that night, it was a good movie.

And Sunday was fun ... we went to D'Egg for breakfast and while we waited for our food, we read the Sunday Times. Then at my place, he read some more while I took a few hours to edit some pages from our redesign guide. I love that kind of editing - little odds and ends here and there. It was so relaxing. I came home from work to find him playing Wii golf (oddly his Wii has lived at our house since he bought it last week), and we played more Wii for a few hours before sleep. It was really an unremarkable weekend, but it lovely and perfect to me.

P.S. Today I ran for the first time in a while. Granted, it was on a treadmill and it was a laughably short time, but I just felt like I needed to get something out of my system, and running was the only solution. On my way out of the gym, I stopped at the registration window and on a whim grabbed a class schedule. So tomorrow I'm signing up for a belly-dancing class. It will be good for me and build character, like Calvin's dad always says. I'm wondering whether I can convince any friends to sign up, but I think I might prefer to keep my flubbiness to myself and a bunch of strange women in a hourlong class each week.

P.P.S. The title of the post is from my new favorite song, thanks to the episode of "Scrubs" from May 3. It's cheesy but I love it. I'm surprised "Grey's Anatomy" hasn't picked it up yet.

Exercise: 15 minutes on the treadmill (run/walk), 20 minutes cycling

two firsts today

1. I received flowers for the first time. Red roses and chocolates. It's a cliche, and I don't care. Flowers make anyone smile, even if they are toxic. I came home from work, eager to meet friends at the bar to celebrate their engagement. The flowers were hidden in the shadows of the front door, propped up next to a card and a heart-shaped box. My room smells lovely right now.

2. Kiss in the rain.
