old friends, new lives

I'm heading to Franklin to see a friend I haven't seen in two whole years. I remember the last time I saw her - it was May 12, 2005 - the medals ceremony for the honors college at Eisenhower Auditorium.

the Lauras!

And I kept thinking "ok, when will we see each other next?" It's one of those open-ended questions you hate to think about. It was such a happy day, but the question was lingering at the back of my mind.

A year ago she left for Korea - she's so talented and brilliant, she went there on a Fulbright scholarship. She taught at a really rural school and lived on a pig farm. She got back about a month ago, I think, and I've loved hearing about her adventures, especially in her online journal. That girl is a brilliant writer.

Today will be a really brief visit over lunch at a little restaurant in Franklin as she returns to Pennsylvania from vacation, but it will be so so so so lovely and I am so excited, and I will have another "when we last saw each other" memory to cherish until next time!

  1. I have a similar situation coming up! My good friend and I haven't seen each other since I moved several years ago, and we're supposed to get together again soon. It will be weird because so much time has passed, but really nice at the same time, I hope. =)
